Movement. Mentorship. Connection.

Turf Dance

Bringing people together.

Rooted in the legacy of Turfing, a movement born in Oakland with deep ties to violence prevention and creative expression, this program creates spaces where kids, teens, and adults can connect, belong, and express themselves in positive ways.

Turfing:   The name comes from “Taking Up Room on the Floor.” It grew from communities using movement, creativity, and self-expression as an alternative to violence, isolation, and conflict.

Who is it for:

Using dance as a catalyst to care for yourself, others, and the world around you, our community experiences use movement, storytelling, creativity, and expression to bring people together.

For community partners:

FanFest * Block Parties * Community Events

For young dancers and teachers:

Dance Education * Intervention

For youth-serving groups:

After/Before School * Assemblies * PE Takeover
