2021 Family Book Club for Young Readers
Jean Twenge, a professor of psychology at San Diego State University said the most troubling discovery for her, hidden in the data, is this statistic: In the 1970s, about 60 percent of high school seniors reported reading a book, magazine or newspaper every day. Four decades later, in 2016, 16 percent of high school seniors reported doing so. Reading is directly correlated to higher EQ (emotional intelligence) scores and a higher EQ is directly correlated with career success - even more so that IQ.
So how can you help your kids to enjoy reading, read more, and increase their EQ? Read aloud to your children at any age and model reading on your own (join our book club for mature readers).
Below is our 2019 roundup for our family book club. This list is curated to correspond with our quarterly themes. We hope these stories increase bonding moments and spark conversation around life themes including culture, technology, environmentalism, and more.
