Peanut Butter Challenge

We invite kids to #CAREHARD for others by participating in our PEANUT BUTTER CHALLENGE.

It's easy to help spread some love!

1. Download our free printable and fill out or have a parent help to fill it out.

2. Decide a date you will collect the donated jars and then write that on the blank line in the printable - we recommend a week out from when you drop off your flyer. Make it personal by signing your name.

3. Deliver a signed flyer to the homes you trust in your neighborhood.

4. With an adult, kids safely collect the jars left out next to the donors' mailboxes.

5. Drop off collected jars to a local food bank, food pantry, or resource center of your child's choice.

6. Comment below and let us know how many jars you collected and what you learned from this challenge.

Why Peanut Butter?

A little spreads a long way! Most kids and adults like it, high in protein, a superfood (containing 30 essential vitamins and nutrients), and shelf-stable, making it one of the most popular items at food banks.

Facts for Kids

What is food insecurity?

It is important to know that though hunger and food insecurity are closely related, they are not the same. Hunger refers to a personal, physical sensation of discomfort, while food insecurity refers to a lack of available financial resources for food.

What is the difference between a Food Bank and Food Pantry?

A food bank safely stores millions of pounds of food that distributes to local food programs, like a food pantry. The food they store is donated from local neighbors, retailers, grocery stores, and restaurants.
A food pantry is a distribution center where hungry families can receive food. Pantries are supplied with food from a food bank or local neighbor. Because every community is different, there are many kinds of pantries. Sometimes a food pantry is inside a school, so it is easier for children and their families to get food.

How many people feel food insecurity?

Before COVID-19, 1 out of 5 children in San Diego faced food insecurity. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, some food banks are receiving 80% fewer food donations than usual and have an increase in food distribution.
Food insecurity is surging amid the COVID-19 crisis, and food banks are struggling to meet the need. Food pantries are dealing with shortages of donated food as grocery stores have no excess and restaurants, theme parks, and hotels — all vital sources of surplus food — are temporarily closed due to COVID-19.
Kids can help by taking part in our Inlight Peanut Butter challenge and have the ability to make an even bigger impact by spreading the word to their friends and classmates to participate in this challenge.
